Bhote Koshi River Rafting

Trip Information

Bhote Koshi River is a river of Nepal popular for rafting which originates from the Tibetan plateau flowing down through steep gorge towards the south. Naturally, it flows through the rugged course, adding thrills to the trip. Bhote Koshi can be reached by just a 4-hour drive north-east of Kathmandu. Bhote Koshi can be a great beginner river for naive rafters and also fun for kayakers wanting to have an adventure trip with steep and non-stop water flow making it a great adventure trip.

The adventure can be most enjoyed between October and December and February and April. Bhote Koshi is described as the best whitewater rafting adventure and the most exciting short rafting trip of Nepal. If somebody had never rafted before and desired for rafting - then Bhote Koshi is the perfect River rafting for them.

We also get the chance to observe emerald green fields terraced high above the river on precipitous slopes, curious villagers lining us, suspension bridges which are amazed as well as we plunge through the cascading waves and chutes of foam in Bhote Koshi river rafting. Bhote Koshi is the steepest river with continuous rapid action making this river a full commitment and a huge adrenaline rush for experienced rafters too.

We Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will provide high-quality self-bailing rafts, helmets, plastic paddles, wetsuits, lifejacket and first aid kit also with plenty healthy and hygienically prepared foods and drinks.

Equipments which we provide are of highest quality, cleaned and well maintained. A rafter needs to bring the suitable footwear for wearing in the raft, warm clothes, towel, sun block creams. We will take care of the safety of our clients. All our guides are licensed and have many years of experience of rafting on the rivers of Nepal.

Day 1: Drive to Khadichaur and Start Rafting

We will drive from Kathmandu to Khadichaur which is the starting point for rafting - also called put-in point. It will take a couple of hours to cover the distance of 78 km from Kathmandu to Khadichaur. On the way, we will have spectacular views of mountains such as Ganesh Himal and Langtang. After reaching Khadichaur, we will take some time to have our lunch. Rafting will begin shortly after having lunch.

First, you will be given a short briefing on the safety measures, usage of the equipment and rowing techniques. Today we will raft for about 20 kilometers and end the rafting at Chehere. There will be few rapids and falls of grades 3 and 4 that will keep you busy. We can take breaks to have rest as required. On reaching Chehere, we will pack up the boats and equipment and load them into the vehicle which will take us to our camp.

Day 2: Drive to Khadichaur and start rafting

After having breakfast, we are now ready for yet another exciting day. Today, you will raft in the real adventurous part of Bhote Koshi with the experience of previous day’s rafting. Class 3 rapids start to come again from the upper section while white water is hitting constantly at the rafts. You have second chance to show how your raft team can work together in the challenging rapids.

We will have lunch on the river beach and continue the action with more rapids of grades 3 and 4. By the late afternoon, we will reach Dolalghat Bazaar. It is the end point of our rafting adventure. After spending some time in Dolalghat, we will get back to Kathmandu. The drive along the 65 kilometers road to Kathmandu will take less than two hours on a vehicle.

Rating: 5 - Excellent

We received outstanding personal service from Binod and his team at Ganesh Himal Hiking Team. It was an exceptional experience in every way. We were met at the airport, he gave us personal transportation along with many great tours to cultural sites in Kathmandu, he took us to some wonderful restaurants and he set us up in a very nice hotel in Thammel. Binod really knows how to take great care of his clients with a personal touch. We also loved meeting his mother, father and his family which added greatly to our cultural experience in Nepal.

Additionally, Binod's brother Bishnu, was our guide on our trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Bishnu took excellent care of my trekking partner and me throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp and back. Our trek was also an amazing cultural experience as well as a remarkable trekking experience! We loved the Nepalese people and, of course, we loved seeing the incredible scenery. Also, Binod personally guided us on a trip to Pokhara, Nepal where he arranged for us a guided rafting trip, a paragliding trip and a trip to Chitwan National Park where we did a tour on the back of an elephant spotting wildlife and we were able to attend a nice cultural program. The accommodations in Pokhara and the food were fantastic. I highly recommend Binod and his Ganesh Himal Hiking Team to anyone who is interested in receiving the best service and the best trekking and cultural experience in Nepal.
