Dolpo region lies in the isolated and backward part of mid-western part of Nepal beyond the Dhaulagiri massif and linked with Tibet plateau. Dolpo is one of the supreme stimulating trekking destinations of Nepal. Dolpo region is with an area of 7,889 sq. kilometers and it is the largest region of Nepal and still one of the most sparsely colonized. These unexplored, high altitude valleys were not unlocked until 1989. Dolpo has been reflected as the last enclave of pure Tibetan culture left on earth. Nestled in the mountains, at the altitude of 4100 m, is a small gorge called Tarap.
The Dolpo region bids a boundless variety of landscapes, cultures and the great people of dolpo area. At dolpo you get to understand the ancient trade routes which offers breathtaking scenery and a deep insight into the lives and customs of this unique folks and eye-catching snowy peaks as well as Kanjiriba north (6883m), Kanjiriba south (6861m), Dhaulagiri (8167meter), Churen Himal (7381m), Putha Hiunchuli (7249m), Mukot Himal (6639m), Araniko Chuli (6034m) and many more mountains can be seen from the trek to this dolpo region. People around are mostly Tibetan people who migrated from Tibet in this dolpo region around 6th century. This land is also known as herbal land and in this region it is very hard to produce crops there, which makes life problematic for the local people, therefore mostly the locals around are involved in the salt trade from Tibet, this traditional culture undergo in Doplo generation to generation. The people of Dolpo are of Tibetan origin and they uphold their Tibetan culture with monasteries that follow thoroughly the Buddhism of Tibet.
The months of March to September are fine for embarking on this trek. After September, it will started snowing heavily, and hiking is feasible only with heavy duty gear. From November it is completely impassable. Perfect time is from March to May as it might rain in June and July. Explorers can contemplate a number of stimulating options across the region; certain areas are comparatively easy to enjoy others may need more effort but all are extraordinary and satisfying.
