Trip Information

Island Peak climbing is one of the major attraction at the Everest region. It gleamingly stands at an altitude of 6189m above sea level on the Everest circuit.  Whereas, triumphs to amuse at the very first instance thanks to the highly glaciated west face that rises from Lhotse.  Moreover, the strenuous picturesque of glaciers, icefall and the snowcapped mountains comes as a delight for every passerby.

The trip starts with a morning flight to Lukla curling way down to Phakding as a warm up for the upcoming journey whereas we take an ascent to Namche popularly known as Gateway of Everest as a break to acclimatize with  climate. Next day, the journey continues to stretch to Tengboche, a home to largest monastery at Everest region from where the real adventure actually begins as we climb to Pheriche followed by Lobuche waiting with a spectacular view of Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumari and Mahalangur along with an awe-inspiring view of Khumbu region giving a full display of path to Gorekshep which ultimately directs to Kalapatthar also Everest base camp. The fantastic panorama of surrounding eight-thousanders such being Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam and up-close sight of Mt. Everest makes you grin to its content.

Taking a detour from Kalapatthar and Everest base camp reach at Lobuche which eventually leads to Kongla La to witness an exquisite sight of Imja take take some time to applaud yourself for your hard work, dedication and commitment throughout the journey recall the most amazing days to boost yourself as the stakes are getting higher as we march forward to climb Island peak. Carefully climb steep trail from Chukkung across the moraines and glacier of Imja and Lhotse following ridgeline and glacier crevices following instructions from our team of expertise as you go up to Island peak to experience how it feels to  stand above 6000m enjoying quiet a view of nature amphitheater. Enjoy the surrounding view of the mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers and the landscape while upon return follow directions from our expertise continuing same route to Pangboche, Namche, Lukla and finally reach Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu at 1,300 meter and 4,264 feet

Upon you arrival at Tribhuvan International airport of Kathmandu, one of our representative from the Ganesh Himal Hiking team will be already there waiting for you carrying a signboard of company name with  your name written on it so, that you can easily spot them. After finishing your custom formalities like visa and passport and all you will head to the terminal gate and there you will find our representatives and then they will greet you and transferred you to the hotel. Ganesh Himal Hiking team Company will be hosting a farewell dinner in tremendous a Nepali restaurant which serves you authentic delectable Nepali cuisines. We will be spending our night in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu: trip preparation City Tour 

Today afternoon we will be gathering at Ganesh Himal Hiking Team for trip discussion. We will be introducing you to our expert Sherpa climbing guide and other participants who will be joining with you. Our leader and our climbing expert will be checking all the climbing equipments. If you have any questions or any confuses related to this expedition you can discuss with our trip leader. After that you can spend the day relaxing at your hotel as tomorrow we take a flight to Lukla. We will spend our night at Kathmndu.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla at 2,800 meter &9,184ft. Then trek to Phakding at 2,652 meter & 8,700 feet: 40 min flight, 3-4 hours trek

Today after breakfast we will head to Tribhuvan airport and take a mountain domestic flight to Lukla. During flight to Lukla we will be getting the picturesque view of Himalayas including with the mighty mountain Everest and few snow capped peaks. Enjoying approx 40 minute flight we will arrive at Tenzing/ Hillary Lukla airport and here you will be meeting our crew members. From here we will began our trek through flourishing village where we will be leading towards Phakding. Today we will be trekking for few hours for the proper acclimatization but if are interested to hike more than we will be hiking to the monastery. We will spend our night in Phakding.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meter &11,283 feet: 5-6 hours

Today after breakfast we will be walking through dense exquisite pine forests following the Dudh Koshi River. Continuing trekking for few hours we will arrive at Namche Bazaar as we will be trekking through dense forest of pine, rhododendron and juniper with the radiant view of mount Thamserku which is at the altitude of 6608 meter. If the sky is clear we will also get to witness the highest mountain Everest. Continuing trekking we will arrive at Sagarmatha national park and then we will reach at Namche Bazaar – the main gateway to all trekking, expedition of Everest region. Today we will be also crossing at least five suspension bridges and last one will be the Hillary Bridge. We will spend our night in Namche bazaar.

Three times meals are included.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meter and 11,283 feet: Acclimatization Day

Today we will be acclimatizing the altitude by relaxing but health experts advises that for the proper acclimatization we must not stay idle so, instead of taking fully rest we will hike to some of the area. There are many option for the proper acclimatization like you can wander around the Namche Bazaar and get familiar with the Sherpa people understands and explore their culture/ traditions and their lifestyles. We can even hike to Everest view hotel to capture the Everest Mountain in close on the way we will be visiting local museum showcasing history of Everest region and varied flora and fauna of Everest region.

For adventurous trekkers the other option will be hiking to Khumjung village approx 5-6 hours. In this village you will be visiting Edmund Hillary School and Kumjung monastery famous abode where Yeti scalp are kept. We will spend our night in Namche.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche at 3,870 meter &12,694 feet: 5- 6 hours

Today after breakfast we will trek to Tengboche. The trail from Namche towards Phuniki is easy but from here it is bit challenging. When you arrive at Punakha we will be ascending to Tengboche village- a beautiful village popular for Tengboche monastery the largest monastery of Everest region. This monastery is situated between Sagarmatha National park- which is listed in the UNESCO world heritage site. The monastery is surrounded with 360 degree view of Himalayas plus snowcapped peaks like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku and Ama Dablam. The Tengboche monastery opens at 3 pm and you might get to witness the Buddhism religious practices. We will spend our night in Tengboche.

Day 07: Tengboche to Pheriche at 4,200 meter &13,776 feet: 4-5 hours

From the monastery one get the mind blowing view so, we will be visiting this monastery even in morning and spend some time taking pictures of mountains and landscapes. After that we will descend for half an hour via lush forest and then cross the river. We will then continue trekking uphill and climbing uphill we will come across the Sherpa village and then we will arrive at Pheriche village which is situated close to the riverside. Here you will observe helipad where if any emergencies occur then this Helipad is utilized for Helicopter rescue. We will even attend the class conducted by mountain expert related to mountain expedition. We will spend our night in Pheriche.

Day 08: Pheriche to Lobuche at 4,930 meter &16,170 feet: 5-6 hours

Today after breakfast we will continue our trek with easy walk and head to Dugla. After that we will be trekking up to the steep moraine of Khumbu glacier and pass via scatter boulder slopes and then we will climb to Chupki Lhara and then you will find piled of stones with Buddhists prayer flags memory to American mountaineer- Scott Fisher and Babu Chiri Sherpa -Everest Mountain summitter who successfully climbed Mt Everest 10 times. Continuing our trek to Khumbu glacier we will be surrounded by several peaks view like Lingtren, Khumbutse, Mahalangur Himal and Pumori. We will spend our night in Lobuche.

Day 09: Lobuche to Gorak Shep at 5170 meter &16,961 feet, visit Everest Base Camp at 5364 meter &17,594 feet: 6-7 hrs.

Today we will be trekking on the trail that leads to Everest base camp via huge Gorak Shep Lake. Trekking straightly forward we will reach Indian Army Mountaineers Memorial. The trails from here are deceptive so, follow the path of Sherpa guide. The trek is bit challenging as we will reach at high altitude and due to thin air it will be tough to trek. Slowly we will continue our trek and pass the moraine, rocky dunes and river and then we will arrive at Everest Base camp. The Mountain View you get to see from the Base camp is Pumori, Nuptse and Kumbutse. After that we will retrace back to Gorak Shep for goodnight sleep. We will spend our night in Gorakshep.

Day 10: Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar at 5545 meter &18,192 feet and back to Lobuche at 4940 meter&16,207 feet: 7-8 hrs.

Today early morning we will be trekking to Kalapathar so, be prepare for cold temperature which is 10 to 14 Celsius and cold strong winds. On the way you will get to view several peaks like Khumbutse, Changtse, Lingtren and even Mt. Everest but the close view you will get is from kalapathar. We will get 360 degree close view of Everest and spend some time taking pictures of spectacular mountains. After that we will retrace back to Lobuche. We will spend our night in Lobuche.

Day 11: Lobuche to Kongma La at 5,535 meter &18,159 feet to Chhukung at 4,730 meter &15,518 feet: 6-7 hrs.

Today after having our breakfast we will continue our trek through Khumbu glacier towards Kongma la base camp at 5000 meter. After that we will climb to kongma La Pass which will be the challenging pass. On the way to Kongma la pass we will be observing Buddhists prayer flags. Next we will descend steadily to Imja river valley and again we will descend to Chhukung. Reaching Chhukhang we will check our climbing gears. We will spend our night in Chhukhang.

Note: There are two routes to reach Chukhang as if you don’t want to undertake the challenging Kongma la pass then there is option like instead of that we can even trek from Dingboche towards Chhukhang.

Day 12: Chhukung to Island Peak base camp at 5,200 meter &17,060 feet: 3-4 hrs.

The trek towards Island base camp is somewhat steep trail where we will first ascend to south and turn to east side to the valley. We will then trek through windy trail beneath southern edge of moraine from Lhotse glacier. We will continue our trek on the enjoyable trail alongside the stream. The path to Amphu Labtsa lies on south east direction. A zigzag path via Imja and Lhotse glacier leads to broad valley contiguous to south west side of Island peaks. We will spend our night in Island peak base camp.

Day 13: Pre-climb training on Island Peak Base Camp

After breakfast we will be training for climbing Island peak. Our climbing expert guide will be instructing you how to climb the mountain and how to use the climbing equipments like ice axe, crampons, climbing boots, harness etc. The guide will be also teaching you how to use ropes while ascending and descending. To summit this peak it is not necessary to have previous climbing experience because with some training and confidence inside you and with the support of our climbing guide one can easily summit the peak. Today we can hike to high camp and retrace back to base camp or one can take rest. We will spend our night in base camp.

Day 14: Island Peak base camp to Island Peak summit at 6,189 meter &20,305 feet, back to base camp: 10-12 hrs.

Today we will wake up early at 12 or 1 am and then we will have breakfast and start ascending the peak. We will summit the peak before noon because in afternoon the blow of the strong winds will be tough for summiting the peak. The path moves above the base camp more than hundred meters above. Firstly the trial turns to grassy trail to stone strewn. After that we will ascend the rock ditch. It is not so tough however there is plenty short rock steep to ascend until we reach at the right side of ditch. After that the trails pursue ridgeline that leads to exciting and exposed cross on snout of summit glacier. The expert guide will be fixing a rope when necessary. A steep snow slopes leads us to the summit ridge. We will be using both the fixed ropes and man rope for safety. We will be using fixed rope after fruitfully ascending on rock, the rope length will be 350 meter but length of rope depends on season and crevasses. There are two newly shaped crevasses which is around 3 to 4 meter long. To cross the crevasses we will be using ladder.  Reaching at the top of the summit we will enjoy the Mountain View and spend some time taking pictures. We will then retrace back to island peak base camp and reaching the base camp we will celebrate for completing our peak summit successfully.

Day 15: Island Peak Base Camp to Pangboche at 3,985 meter&13,074 feet. Trek 5-6 hrs.

Today our trekking trail will be easy as we will be descending down to low altitudes by retracing back on the same trail via broad valley of Khumbu river and passing a stunning Sherpa village of Orsho and Shomare. We can also trek from a different route towards Pangboche where on the trail you can visit Gompa which is said to be the ancient Gomba of Khumbu region or you can trek from the regular trail to Pangboche. This beautiful village is bounded by north side of Everest and other peaks like Ama Dablam, Kangtaiga, Themserku, range of Kongde and Imja River.

Day 16: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meter &11,286 feet: 4-5 hours

We will continue our trek retracing down to Imja khola and trek upwards to the lush forest towards Tengboche. Reaching at the monastery we will be visiting nuns and then we will have lunch at Tengboche. After that we will be trekking to the hillside cover by thick juniper and rhododendron trees. We will cross the Dudh Koshi River through bridge and then we will descend through lush pine forests and arrives at Sansa. On the trail we might get to spot animals like snow leopard, mountain goat, pheasants etc. We will then pass lush forests and chorten; we arrive at army base camp of Namche Bazaar. We will spend our night in Namche bazaar.

Day 17:  Namche Bazaar to Lukla at2, 800 meter &9,186 feet: 6-7 hours

Today our trail descends down steeply so we must walk carefully as our shaky- legs constantly battle the rocky trail. We will then cross the Dudh Koshi River through suspension bridge and from here our trail turns into moderate level. Within a while we will reach at Lukla and then you can stretch your sore legs and relax. We will spend our night in Lukla.

Day 18: Fly to Kathmandu at 1, 350 meter &4,428 feet.

Today early morning we take a scenic flight to Kathmandu and within 45 minutes we will reach at Kathmandu airport and then we will drive you to the hotel. Later you can do souvenir shopping and if you want to explore and visit any other places nearby then we can do it today. Our guide from Ganesh Himal Hiking team will be helping you with souvenir shopping and sightseeing. In evening the Ganesh Himal Hiking team will be hosting a farewell dinner to celebrate for completing successfully our island peak climbing. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Final Departure

Today your adventurous journey to Everest base camp trek with island peak climbing comes to an end. One of our representatives from Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will be dropping you at airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule. Trip Note

Hotel and Lodge:

Ganesh Himal Hiking team arranges the best comfy and pleasant accommodation and provides you the well nourished hygienic foods. Throughout your stay in Kathmandu i.e. 3 nights you will be staying at the best standard hotel which will be rating at 2- 3-star hotel. Although if you want to stay at 4- 5-star hotel in the well sumptuous hotel and are able to pay for this expenses then you have this kind of choices but for the luxurious hotel the payment should be deposited by the clients itself. As the Ganesh Himal Hiking team company can only afford the hotel which is the rate at 2-3 star hotels. However once you are set for your trek there will be no such facilities like in the city of Kathmandu and one should not expect like Kathmandu as we are trekking to the remote area so, we will be staying at tea houses and local lodges. In such hotel there will be a usual bed and of course pillow. Most of the lodges of this region depend on lanterns or candle only a few has the facility of electric lights nonetheless you will be getting clean hygienic food which is most important. Most of the lodges will be already booked earlier before your trek however in some situation we will be not able to book in advance but not to worry we can book -in while reaching there because there are ample of lodges and some tea houses in this region and if not we can easily set a camp which will the most adventurous part of the trek itself is interesting and adventurous.

Meals and Drinks:

We the company totally focuses on client’s meals by making sure that each and every client get the same portion which is clean hygienic and nourished which is most necessary while trekking. While trekking all the meals i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided but in the Kathmandu city sometimes breakfast and sometimes dinner are included where you can go through the each detail itinerary below. During trek breakfast and dinner will be served in the lodges or teahouses and for the lunch our expert trek leader or guide will be taking you the best clean hotels. However we suggest you carry a water purification tablets to purify the water as on the way you will get normal water but if you want bottled mineral water you will easily get in some shops or tea houses but the expense of the bottled water should be paid by the client itself as it is not included in package.

Best Season to Travel:

The flawless seasons for Nepal visit will be in the spring season in the month of March to May and autumn season on September and November. Even in winter one can travel but only if you can bear the cold weather season. We strongly recommended the clients not to trek on the monsoon season on the month of June, July and August because during this period it rains heavenly and in day afternoon the sun rays will be extremely blazing heat so, it will be difficult to trek. So, we suggest every client trek in the specific seasons.


Throughout your trekking your luggage will be carried by our porters and you have to carry your own small baggage containing your own water bottle, towel, tissue or toilet paper, camera or any other stuff which you usually carry and this small baggage should be carried by yourself. Some of the gears and clothes which are not needed during your trek can be left in the hotel safe deposit box carefully locking it properly and for the deposit there will be no charges so, you can freely keep your belongings which are not needed. The Nepal domestic airlines do not exceed more than 15 kg which also includes your hand baggage. If your baggage exceeds more than 15 kg then some charge should be deposit which is not included in the package.  

Guide/Porter on Trek:

We the company Ganesh Himal hiking team will be providing you the well expert trained trekking guide who will be handling all your trip issue. Also we will be providing you a cordial and sincere porter who will be carrying your 10 kg luggage of each client. Like if you are trekking in a huge group like more than 10 people than we will be providing you an extra guide which will be divided into two groups or more than three according to the number of people in the group. 

Group Size, Guide and Crew Member:

Ganesh Himal hiking team arranges trek with the minimum solitary client to maximum 16 clients in a group. In the larger group we will be arranged by dividing the groups. However one can stay in the same lodge but during your trek you will be having a different guide. We the Ganesh Himal Hiking team offers one guide for maximum 10 people in the group and if the number exceeds more than 10 till 16 then we will be providing you 2 guides. 

Personal Expenses on Trek:

Your personal expenses should be deposited by yourself like if you addicted to alcohol and all the alcohol you consume during your trip should be paid by yourself that goes to snacks or any other additional meals. Though the cost of accommodation and meals are included in package but such additional meals and drinks- alcohol and non-alcohol beverage, snacks, tips for guide and porters, hot shower- accessible only in some hotel, entrance fee around $ 25 for visiting heritage sites of Kathmandu, meals while you are in Kathmandu and the normal meals will cost around $ 5-7. It is up to you whether you like to give tips to the guide and porter, if you are satisfied with their services then you can tip them.

Gears Available in Kathmandu:

For the trekking equipment you can easily get it at Nepal country stores at the reasonable price and if you like you can also rent the trekking equipment. You don’t have to carry or buy from your hometown because all the trekking gear can be easily available in this country –Nepal.  

A Typical Day on Trek:

On a customary day you are necessary to trek for 4-6 hours each day. After breakfast we will start to walk and then we will be stopping for a lunch and after lunch we will walk for 3-4 hours to reach our destination. After lunch we will be trekking only for few hours and we will reach our trekking destination in 1—2 hours. Like in some days you will reach your destination in afternoon hours and then you can have lunch and then relax, or take shower, read a novel or wander around the area and even you can play cards with the group, guide and all.

Our Greetings at Airport:

We suggest you that when you are confirmed for this trip we advise you to give us your international flight schedule so, we the team can easily get to you and pick you up from the airport on time. As soon as you finish processing the customs formalities and come out from there and there you can find our representative carrying a signboard of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team and the team will greet you and take you to the hotel in private vehicle. Like if you have already booked the hotel by your own then we advise informing the hotel that you are staying so it will be easy for our representative to drop you at the hotel.

Itinerary and Possible Changes on it:

Our usual itinerary of the trek is 19 days which is main customary and pragmatic. In this 19 days itinerary it has also included your arrival day, departure day or Kathmandu sightseeing day tour are all included in this package itinerary. If you like to adjust the itinerary we can set it for you as per your desire so, before that let us know before booking the trip and then we will arrange the itinerary and the cost. Like if you like to extend more days then we will even manage it for you as in our package we have kept extra day because we don’t know the situation of Himalaya weather it suddenly changes and faces problems like delayed flights or cancellation of flight.


Client’s safety is our main priority and makes sure that each and every client is well taken care of.  If by chance anyone got sick during trek we will take you to the hospital and if one is seriously ill then we will rescue a helicopter and then they will take you to the hospital and all the expenses are carried out by the travel insurance company so, make sure to cover the insurance policy. Booking and Payment:

For booking any trip, trek, expedition first you have to deposit 20% in advance if you are confirmed for the trek you have to send even your flight detail schedule, a passport photocopy and if you cancel the booking then this 20% is not -refundable.  The remaining 80% can be paid when you reach Kathmandu and if you want to pay in advance you can deposit it by transferring through a bank, credit card so, lets us know then we will be sending you the detail for payment. 

Flight Delay in Kathmandu and Lukla:

Only domestic mountain flight is only available to Lukla and sometimes the flight might be delayed or canceled due to unforeseen adverse Himalaya weather condition so, that why we have kept the extra day in the itinerary to cover up such situation like delay or cancel the flight. In case if the flight is canceled for 2 or more than that, then we will have to charter a helicopter and make sure that you reach on scheduled flight and reach safely in your own home. This extra service cost can be deposited directly to the Ganesh Himal Hiking Team office and the expense is carried out by the Insurance Company as the helicopter charter cost will be maximum US$ 500 or the US $ 3500 which depends on a number of people in flight.

We received outstanding personal service from Binod and his team at Ganesh Himal Hiking Team. It was an exceptional experience in every way. We were met at the airport, he gave us personal transportation along with many great tours to cultural sites in Kathmandu, he took us to some wonderful restaurants and he set us up in a very nice hotel in Thammel. Binod really knows how to take great care of his clients with a personal touch. We also loved meeting his mother, father and his family which added greatly to our cultural experience in Nepal.

Additionally, Binod's brother Bishnu, was our guide on our trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Bishnu took excellent care of my trekking partner and me throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp and back. Our trek was also an amazing cultural experience as well as a remarkable trekking experience! We loved the Nepalese people and, of course, we loved seeing the incredible scenery. Also, Binod personally guided us on a trip to Pokhara, Nepal where he arranged for us a guided rafting trip, a paragliding trip and a trip to Chitwan National Park where we did a tour on the back of an elephant spotting wildlife and we were able to attend a nice cultural program.
