Trekking to Helambu is one of the pristine trekking of the Langtang region bordering Tibet with the people having varied culture and traditions. The Helambu region is located northeast of Kathmandu and south of the Tibetan border. Helambu Trek is an easy and short trek good for those people who want to trek limited and view the scenic mountain ranges of Langtang Region.

Highlights of Helambu Trek

Trekking to Helambu offers you the majestic beauty of the mountains such as Langtang Lirung (7245 meters), Dorje Lakpa (6966 meters), Gauri Shanker, Ganesh Himal, LangShisa RiGangchenpo, Yala peak (5500 meters), Naya Kanga (5846 m), Annapurna Himalaya ranges and other snowcapped peaks. You will also be visiting the Yolmo villages somewhat similar to the ethnic Sherpa villages/groups including several monasteries, yak herders, & cheese factory - which make this trek exciting.

Trekking to Helambu begins from a drive to Sundarijal at Kathmandu and from there, we start walking to Chisopani (2300 meters) crossing the hydroelectric plant. After 4-5 hours of trek, we enter the ShivaPuri National Park which has diverse species of birds - around 117, different wild species and abundant rare orchids. On the trail - we will be visiting the first village - Mulkharka – mostly inhabited by the Tamang communities.

As from Chisopani to Kutumsang (2446 meters), our trail passes through fir & rhododendron forests with no human settlements. Trekking for about 6-7 hours, we next reach Yurin Danda from where we get the picturesque views of the Himalayas. We then descend downwards until we cross the Melamchi Khola (river) trekking up to TarkeGhyang. This area of TarkeGhyang is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa and Hyolmo communities and from here, we start getting the glimpses of the mountains. Also, you also can visit one of the ancient biggest monastery of this region.

Finally, we will be descending down to Melamchi Pul Bazaar which has a mix ethnic communities but the majority of the Sherpas. From this Melamchi Pul (bridge), we take a private vehicle to retrace back to Kathmandu.

Trekking to Helambu can be best relished in autumn (mid-Sept to mid-Dec) and spring (March to May). The climate will be sunny and warm with great spectacular views of the peaks but the nights may be bit colder. Winter season is freezing cold for this trek so we suggest in spring or fall unless you are well adapted.

Normally, you are required to trek for 4-6 hours each day. We start our trek after breakfast and stop for the lunch. We trek for 3-4 hours after lunch to reach our destination. If we reach our destination in afternoon, you can spend rest of the hours relaxing, take shower or just wander around.

Changes in the Itinerary:

Our regular itinerary of the Langtang Valley Trek is 8 days unless you have customized it.  The itinerary has been carefully designed by our operation manager which is very pragmatic & includes the high altitude acclimatizing. These 8 days includes your arrival day, departure and sightseeing Kathmandu. It also may have an extra day which allows flexibility to adjust the delay or cancellation of flight due to sudden changes in the Himalayan weather (applies according to the location).

If you would like to extend more days or lessen some, we surely can do that as per your wish.

Safety Measures:

Client’s safety is our main priority and we make sure that each and every client is well taken care of. If by chance anyone gets sick during the trek, we will take you to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. If the condition is serious – we will use the rescue helicopter to take you to the nearest hospital while all the expenses will be carried out by the travel insurance company. We suggest you get insured for up to 6000 meters.

Please go thoroughly what’s covered and not in the insurance policy.

Booking and Payment:

After confirming or booking the trip – all we need is the copy of the passport, insurance policy, and the international flight details (ticket). Then, a 20% advance deposit is required for any trip, trek or expedition which is not refundable - used for reservations of hotels and lodges according to the itinerary.

The remaining balance is due when you arrive at Kathmandu and can be paid by any means convenient to you. We prefer payment via cash (to avoid any extra service charge) but bank transfer, credit cards, western union, and pay pal are also the accepted form of payments.

An amazing trip with Ganesh Himal Hiking to Kathmandu, Mt. Everest BC, Pokhara and Chitwas

hil32015 | Spokane, Washington | October 26 , 2014

Rating: 5 - Excellent

We received outstanding personal service from Binod and his team at Ganesh Himal Hiking Team. It was an exceptional experience in every way. We were met at the airport, he gave us personal transportation along with many great tours to cultural sites in Kathmandu, he took us to some wonderful restaurants and he set us up in a very nice hotel in Thammel. Binod really knows how to take great care of his clients with a personal touch. We also loved meeting his mother, father and his family which added greatly to our cultural experience in Nepal.

Additionally, Binod's brother Bishnu, was our guide on our trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Bishnu took excellent care of my trekking partner and me throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp and back. Our trek was also an amazing cultural experience as well as a remarkable trekking experience! We loved the Nepalese people and, of course, we loved seeing the incredible scenery. Also, Binod personally guided us on a trip to Pokhara, Nepal where he arranged for us a guided rafting trip, a paragliding trip and a trip to Chitwan National Park where we did a tour on the back of an elephant spotting wildlife and we were able to attend a nice cultural program. The accommodations in Pokhara and the food were fantastic. I highly recommend Binod and his Ganesh Himal Hiking Team to anyone who is interested in receiving the best service and the best trekking and cultural experience in Nepal.
