Upper Mustang Region
Mustang was formerly an independent kingdom, even though closely tied by language and culture to Tibet. Upper Mustang is a subtle land, which is substitute of Tibet. The Upper Mustang region brings you into the concealed world of the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Mustang also called Lo (Lomanthang). Lo used to be part of the Tibetan kingdom and is thus closely tied to Tibet in culture, language and geography. The north of Kagbeni villages usually mentioned as Upper Mustang. Upper Mustang is situated north of Annapurna and at an average elevation of 4,000m is geologically and culturally fragment of the Tibetan plateau. Previously it was exposed for tourists in year 1992; Mustang remained a mystery for many centuries. Festivals are mostly celebrated and one of the biggest and well known festivals is Tiji festival which is celebrated till 3 days. (March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and early November) are the best season for the mustang trekking.
