TRIP OVERVIEW

Trip Information

 

This trekking is one of the remote and it is strictly restricted area and since it is opened for the trekkers in 1991 so till now many have visited this untouched region frequently. This region is also called as Lo because it is the capital of upper mustang thoroughlytied to the Tibetan culture, language and its geography. This region lies at the north of Annapurna at the altitude of 4050meter.Previous this trekking was one of the classic trek but in some places some tea houses are accessible where you get simplelodging and meals.Main viewpoint of this trekking is you will be viewing the Mount Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt Nilgiri and other several peaks. Plus you will be encountering through several ancient Buddhists monasteries, prayer mani walls surrounding stupa with the colorful prayer flags. It takes you all through the rocky land with the snowcapped mountains with amazing barren landscapes and to the mysterious land kingdom with amazing Buddhists architecture.

Our trek begins from a flight to jomsom where you get the pleasant view of Mt. Annapurna and Dhaulagiri during the flight to jomsom and from there we will be heading to the gate of the kagbeni to the gate of upper mustang and then our actual trekking starts where we will be heading towards the kaligandaki and ascending we will reaching thangbi village where you will be crossing through various terraced fields with the apple orchards etc. after that we will reach at chusang village where the societies living there are mostly from the managi societies who practice the Buddhists religion. And following the Kaligandaki and steeply rock land we reach at chiale village where the communities living there are Buddhists who are very much cordial to the visitors where you pleasant visiting this village. After the path of this get steeply, dry arid land without tree and you will be visiting some of the chorten with some monks reciting prayers and then we reach at samar village and then descending down we reach the Geling village and descending through the cliffs of red and blue color and come across the longest mani wall of Nepal and gently we descent to Charang village and finally we will be trekking to lo manathang at the altitude of 4050 meter at here we will be visiting the ancient monasteries i.e. lo gekargumba which is one of the ancient gumba in the Nepal and also visited other numerous gumba and within a few hours trekking you will reach at tingkhar village where you will encounter through Tibetan communities where you get to experience their culture. And then our trekking will be quite difficult from lo manathang and muktinath where your trail will be bit difficult but interesting village Dhi which is one of the best village in this region after that we will reach at Damoodarkunda which is said to be one of the sacred lake after crossing this lake we will reach at tangbe village at an altitude of 3370 meter. Through the steep ridge hills we will reach at tetang and lastly we will reach at jomsom.

ITINARARY

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m&4,428ft)

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International airport our representative from the Ganesh Himal Hiking team will be already there at the airport terminal gate waiting for you and after finishing all the custom formalities of airport and heading to the airport you will easily find them as they will be carrying a signboard or any other related stuff of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team. They will welcome you and drive you to the Hotel and then we will check in into the hotel and can freshen up and relax. The Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will be hosting a farewell dinner in evening in exceptional Nepali restaurants. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and trek Preparation

After breakfast we will began our trip sightseeing Kathmandu city by exploring few heritage sites of Kathmandu which are the pre- historic sites Kathmandu Durbar square, Swambhunath temple, Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa. In brief this pre- historic Kathmandu Durbar Square is the ancient square surrounding with ancient temples built in Pagodas styles. Next is Pashupatinath temple which is the holiest shrine of Hindus and it is also the site of Hindu burials. Next we will visit the Swambhunath temple in simply for the visitors known as monkey temple this pilgrimage sites is both for Hindus and Buddhists where both Hindu and Buddhists devotees come to worship this temple. Next will be the Boudhanath stupa which is the largest stupa in whole world and it is the best touristic spot. Later in afternoon we will be heading to Ganesh Himal Hiking Team office and we will have a small discussion of the trip and also we will introduce you to other participants. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/2689ft): 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast we will drive to Pokhara which is the tourist hub center and this city is the beautiful lake city. With scenic hour’s drive we will arrive at Pokhara where we will be rewarded with charismatic view of great Himalayas including with several peaks named Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchre- Fishtail and range of Annapurna. After that we will check in into the hotel and here you can relax and refreshed up. After that we will head to visit the serene lake named Phewa Lake and enjoy boating in this lake and later we will wander around the Pokhara streets. We will spend our night in Pokhara.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom at 2,713 meter and 8898 feet and trek towards Kagbeni at (2,810m/9,216ft): 3-4 hours trek

Early morning we take a picturesque airstrip to Jomsom. Jomsom is the well known region for ripe apples, beautiful landscapes and strong winds. We will commence our trek where we will be trekking along the superb valley. We will then pass the Eaklibhatti village and then we will reach at Jomsom which is situated on the bank of two rivers. This village is the exquisite village with flat roof house and in this village there is an ancient ruins fort. We will spend our night in Kagbeni.

Day 05: Kagbeni to Chele at 3,050 meter and 10,004 feet: 5-6 hours

After getting permits checked we will start our trek on the path along the kali Gandaki River. Before climbing to the high hill we will first walk to the sandy trail with strong winds and then we will reach Tangbe village and then we will delighted with white washed house, narrow pathway, buckwheat and barley fields. We will then continue our trekking and then we will be passing another village and from here we will be crossing the river. Before reaching Chele village we will be walking on high ridge. We will spend our night in Chele.

Day 06: Chele to Syanbochen at 3,475 meter and 11,398 feet: 6-7 hours

From today onwards our trekking trail will be bit challenging since we will be crossing two high pass named Taklam La pass at 3624 meter and other pass Dajori La pass at 3735 meter. During our trek we will be enjoying the spectacular view of Yakawa Kang, Tilicho and Damodar Danda and then we will be passing the Ramchung cave. We will then descend for a while and then we reach a small ridge. After that we will descend steeply trail to a river and from here we will continue our trek and reaches at Syangboche. We will spend our night in Syangboche.

Day 07: Syanbochen to Ghami at 3,520 meter and 11,546 feet: 5-6 hrs.

Today we will climb to Yamda La pass- 3850 meter and from here we will be passing by few tea houses, splendid village and chotens. After that we will be trekking through forest and barley terraced fields and then we will reach at Nyi pass at 4010 meter. After that we will be descending down to Ghami- the biggest village of Lo region. The village is surrounded by beautiful fields. We will spend our night in Ghami.

Day 08: Ghami to Tsarang at 3,620 meter and 11,873 feet: 5-6 hrs.

Today our trek starts with rough descent with slippery trail after that we will be crossing the Ghami Khola through suspension bridge and from here we will start ascending. The trail is beautiful where we will pass by Mani walls. After that we will cross the Tsarang La pass – 3870 meter and then we will reach at Tsarrang village, the village is located at the top of charang chu canyon and in the village there is a huge fort and red Gomba- monasteries. We will spend our night in Tsarang.

Day 09: Tsarang to Lo Manthang at 3,730 meter and 12,234 feet: 3-4 hrs.

Today our trek starts descending to the canyon and then we will cross the river and then we will begin our trek trekking uphill to Lo La pass at 3950 meter. Reaching at the top of the pass where we will enjoy the splendid view of Lo Manathang village. After that we will descend down from the pass and head to Lo manathang. This village surrounded by captivating peaks like Tilicho, Bhrikuit peak, Nilgiri and Annapurna I and Damodar Kunda pond. We will spend our night in Lo Manathang.

Day 10: Explore Lo- Manthang and Acclimatization

Today we will be acclimatizing the altitude as well as explore the main Gombas- monasteries named Thupchen, Chhoeda and Jhambas inside the gomba you will be exploring the teaching of Buddhism religion and many more. We can either trek to Tingkhar and this stunning village is situated at the North West side of Lo- Mathang. We will spend our night in Lo Manathang.

Day 11: Lo-Mangthang to Drakmar at 3810 meter and 12,500 feet: 6-7 hrs.

Today we will be trekking from another trail where we will be passing by Gyakar village and in this village there is an ancient Gompa with exquisite rock paintings. It is in saying that one who makes a wish in this Gomba- monastery, their wish will be fulfilled. After exploring the Gomba we will continue our trek towards Drakmar. We will spend our night in Drakmar.

Day 12: Drakmar to Ghiling at 3,806 meter &12,484 feet: 5-6 hrs.

Today we will begin our trek early morning to dodge the strong blowing winds and then we will descend down. Before reaching Ghiling we will be passing via dry plateau fields. The trek will be quite challenging as we will trekking with strong winds blown on face. Ghiling region is the dry region nonetheless we will get mind blowing view of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri peaks. Evening we will be touring the village. We will spend our night in Ghiling.

Day 13: Ghiling to Chhuksang at 3050 meter &10,004 feet: 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast we will start our trek where we will be trekking on same route before heading up to Lo Manathang. During our trek to Chhuksang we will be enjoying the striking view of Himalayas with tiny villages and then we will continue our trek. We will spend our night in Chhuksang.

Day 14: Chhuksang to Jomsom at 2,700m/8,856 feet: 6-7 hrs.

Today will be the last day of trek but we will be trekking for longer hours than previous days. With few hours trekking we will reach Mustang path which joins the route of Annapurna circuit. We will be stopping for a lunch at Kagbeni after that we will continue our trek to Jomsom. We will spend our night in Jomsom.

Day 15: Fly back to Pokhara

Early morning we take a scenic airstrip to Pokhara where we will be viewing mount Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Mountain making your flight journey more enjoy –full. Reaching at Pokhara we will spend our day relaxing in the hotel. We will spend our night in Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Today after breakfast we will be leaving beautiful Pokhara Lake City and drive to Kathmandu. The drive to Kathmandu will be the scenic drive where we will drive alongside the river bank with astonishing sight of terraced hills and rural Nepali village people and their lifestyles. When we arrive at Kathmandu city we will drive directly to the hotel and you can relax for awhile and then you can do shopping in souvenir shops nearby where our tour guide will be helping you for shopping. In evening the Ganesh Himal Hiking Team will be hosting a farewell dinner for successfully completing the trip. We will spend our night in Kathmandu.

Day 17: Final departure

Today your journey Upper Mustang trek comes to an end and before leaving the hotel check all your luggage and make sure that you have not miss your any of your belongings and then our representative will come to get you and then he/ she will drop you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule.

Trip Note

Hotel and Lodge:

Ganesh Himal Hiking team arranges the best comfy and pleasant accommodation and provides you the well-nourished hygienic foods. Throughout your stay in Kathmandu i.e. 3 nights you will be staying at the best standard hotel which will be rating at 2- 3-star hotel. Although if you want to stay at 4- 5-star hotel in the well sumptuous hotel and are able to pay for this expenses then you have this kind of choices but for the luxurious hotel the payment should be deposited by the clients itself. As the Ganesh Himal Hiking team company can only afford the hotel which is the rate at 2-3 star hotels. However once you are set for your trek there will be no such facilities like in the city of Kathmandu and one should not expect like Kathmandu as we are trekking to the remote area so, we will be staying at tea houses and local lodges. In such hotel there will be a usual bed and of course pillow. Most of the lodges of this region depend on lanterns or candle only a few has the facility of electric lights nonetheless you will be getting clean hygienic food which is most important. Most of the lodges will be already booked earlier before your trek however in some situation we will be not able to book in advance but not to worry we can book -in while reaching there because there are ample of lodges and some tea houses in this region and if not we can easily set a camp which will the most adventurous part of the trek itself is interesting and adventurous.

Meals and Drinks:

We the company totally focuses on client’s meals by making sure that each and every client get the same portion which is clean hygienic and nourished which is most necessary while trekking. While trekking all the meals i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided but in the Kathmandu city sometimes breakfast and sometimes dinner are included where you can go through the each detail itinerary below. During trek breakfast and dinner will be served in the lodges or teahouses and for the lunch our expert trek leader or guide will be taking you the best clean hotels. However we suggest you carry a water purification tablets to purify the water as on the way you will get normal water but if you want bottled mineral water you will easily get in some shops or tea houses but the expense of the bottled water should be paid by the client itself as it is not included in package.

Best Season to Travel:

The flawless seasons for Nepal visit will be in the spring season in the month of March to May and autumn season on September and November. Even in winter one can travel but only if you can bear the cold weather season. We strongly recommended the clients not to trek on the monsoon season on the month of June, July and August because during this period it rains heavenly and in day afternoon the sun rays will be extremely blazing heat so, it will be difficult to trek. So, we suggest every client trek in the specific seasons.

Luggage/Backpack:

Throughout your trekking your luggage will be carried by our porters and you have to carry your own small baggage containing your own water bottle, towel, tissue or toilet paper, camera or any other stuff which you usually carry and this small baggage should be carried by yourself. Some of the gears and clothes which are not needed during your trek can be left in the hotel safe deposit box carefully locking it properly and for the deposit there will be no charges so, you can freely keep your belongings which are not needed. The Nepal domestic airlines do not exceed more than 15 kg which also includes your hand baggage. If your baggage exceeds more than 15 kg then some charge should be deposit which is not included in the package.  

Guide/Porter on Trek:

We the company Ganesh Himal hiking team will be providing you the well expert trained trekking guide who will be handling all your trip issue. Also we will be providing you a cordial and sincere porter who will be carrying your 10 kg luggage of each client. Like if you are trekking in a huge group like more than 10 people than we will be providing you an extra guide which will be divided into two groups or more than three according to the number of people in the group. 

Group Size, Guide and Crew Member:

Ganesh Himal hiking team arranges trek with the minimum solitary client to maximum 16 clients in a group. In the larger group we will be arranged by dividing the groups. However one can stay in the same lodge but during your trek you will be having a different guide. We the Ganesh Himal Hiking team offers one guide for maximum 10 people in the group and if the number exceeds more than 10 till 16 then we will be providing you 2 guides. 

Personal Expenses on Trek:

Your personal expenses should be deposited by yourself like if you addicted to alcohol and all the alcohol you consume during your trip should be paid by yourself that goes to snacks or any other additional meals. Though the cost of accommodation and meals are included in package but such additional meals and drinks- alcohol and non-alcohol beverage, snacks, tips for guide and porters, hot shower- accessible only in some hotel, entrance fee around $ 25 for visiting heritage sites of Kathmandu, meals while you are in Kathmandu and the normal meals will cost around $ 5-7. It is up to you whether you like to give tips to the guide and porter, if you are satisfied with their services then you can tip them.

Gears Available in Kathmandu:

For the trekking equipment you can easily get it at Nepal country stores at the reasonable price and if you like you can also rent the trekking equipment. You don’t have to carry or buy from your hometown because all the trekking gear can be easily available in this country –Nepal.  

A Typical Day on Trek:

On a customary day you are necessary to trek for 4-6 hours each day. After breakfast we will start to walk and then we will be stopping for a lunch and after lunch we will walk for 3-4 hours to reach our destination. After lunch we will be trekking only for few hours and we will reach our trekking destination in 1—2 hours. Like in some days you will reach your destination in afternoon hours and then you can have lunch and then relax, or take shower, read a novel or wander around the area and even you can play cards with the group, guide and all.

Our Greetings at Airport:

We suggest you that when you are confirmed for this trip we advise you to give us your international flight schedule so, we the team can easily get to you and pick you up from the airport on time. As soon as you finish processing the customs formalities and come out from there and there you can find our representative carrying a signboard of Ganesh Himal Hiking Team and the team will greet you and take you to the hotel in private vehicle. Like if you have already booked the hotel by your own then we advise informing the hotel that you are staying so it will be easy for our representative to drop you at the hotel.

Itinerary and Possible Changes on it:

Our usual itinerary of the trek is 17 days which is main customary and pragmatic. In this 17 days itinerary it has also included your arrival day, departure day or Kathmandu sightseeing day tour are all included in this package itinerary. If you like to adjust the itinerary we can set it for you as per your desire so, before that let us know before booking the trip and then we will arrange the itinerary and the cost. Like if you like to extend more days then we will even manage it for you as in our package we have kept extra day because we don’t know the situation of Himalaya weather it suddenly changes and faces problems like delayed flights or cancellation of flight.

Insurance/Rescue/Evacuation:

Client’s safety is our main priority and makes sure that each and every client is well taken care of.  If by chance anyone got sick during trek we will take you to the hospital and if one is seriously ill then we will rescue a helicopter and then they will take you to the hospital and all the expenses are carried out by the travel insurance company so, make sure to cover the insurance policy. Booking and Payment:

For booking any trip, trek, expedition first you have to deposit 20% in advance if you are confirmed for the trek you have to send even your flight detail schedule, a passport photocopy and if you cancel the booking then this 20% is not -refundable.  The remaining 80% can be paid when you reach Kathmandu and if you want to pay in advance you can deposit it by transferring through a bank, credit card so, lets us know then we will be sending you the detail for payment.

We received outstanding personal service from Binod and his team at Ganesh Himal Hiking Team. It was an exceptional experience in every way. We were met at the airport, he gave us personal transportation along with many great tours to cultural sites in Kathmandu, he took us to some wonderful restaurants and he set us up in a very nice hotel in Thammel. Binod really knows how to take great care of his clients with a personal touch. We also loved meeting his mother, father and his family which added greatly to our cultural experience in Nepal.

Additionally, Binod's brother Bishnu, was our guide on our trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Bishnu took excellent care of my trekking partner and me throughout the trek to Everest Base Camp and back. Our trek was also an amazing cultural experience as well as a remarkable trekking experience! We loved the Nepalese people and, of course, we loved seeing the incredible scenery. Also, Binod personally guided us on a trip to Pokhara, Nepal where he arranged for us a guided rafting trip, a paragliding trip and a trip to Chitwan National Park where we did a tour on the back of an elephant spotting wildlife and we were able to attend a nice cultural program. The accommodations in Pokhara and the food were fantastic.
